Recovery of lawyers: Asma threatens to launch drive

President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) and renowned human rights activist, Asma Jhangir on Wednesday threatened to launch the countrywide protest campaign against what she called the "inaction" of the provincial government for the recovery of Balochistan lawyers who were missing for over one week.
Talking to media persons, during her visit to Quetta she expressed grave concern over the growing incidents of kidnapping for ransom particularly that of lawyers and judges in the province. Former President SCBA, Ali Ahmed Kurd, SCBA Vice President Balochistan chapter Jhanzaib Khan Jadoon advocate and Amanullah Kanrani advocate were also present.
The provincial government and local administration should take concrete steps for the safe and early recovery of the kidnapped lawyers; she emphasised adding the responsibility to protect the lives and property of the masses rest with the government which it must fulfil in letter and spirit. She reiterated that SCBA always raised voice for the downtrodden segments of the society and my today's visit to Balochistan was evident from the fact that we feel pain of people no matter if they live in any part of the county.
President SCBA, however, appealed to the incumbent democratic government to ensure the early recovery of the kidnapped lawyers so that the suffering of their families can be mitigated. Earlier, former president SCBA Ali Ahmed Kurd along with other senior lawyers accorded warm welcomed to Asma Jhangir upon her arrival in the provincial metropolis.
