State Bank of Pakistan should direct commercial banks for advancing loans for the purchase of CNG Buses. This was stated by the participants attending "appraisal of traffic problems in Karachi" arranged by Pakistan Civic Society in a local hotel, here on Thursday.
They urged the City District Government Karachi to ensure shifting of Intercity Bus Terminal from Lines Area to its allocated land in Gadap Town within the time limit granted by the Sindh High Court. Regarding the CNG Bus they said that a fleet of 30 CNG buses is ready for immediate shipment to Karachi. The participants recommended the restoration of Karachi Circular Railway (KCS) as an affective remedy of the problems of Mass Transit in Karachi. Director of CDGK Mass Transit Anwer Baig told the participants that revival of KCS is in offing.
Representing the transport operators, President of Karachi Transport Ittehad Irshad Bukhari said that there is a need of proper training facility to the drivers at government level. He also said that instead of cash penalty, physical imprisonment should be enforced to prevent reckless driving.
He also said that investors should come forward and invest in public transport sectors and set-up enterprises. Former Bureaucrat Aga Syed Ataullah said that the route permit granted in public sector transport is being largely violated in Karachi due to profit-earning motives of law enforcement agencies.-PR
