12 Mar, 2011

Director General Federal Investigation Agency Waseem Ahmed Friday recorded his statement before Justice Sajjad Ali Shah of Sindh High Court. The court was hearing a case pertaining to acquittal and release of Directors of M/s Khanani and Kalia in money laundering scam.
Justice Sajjad Ali Shah was appointed as Inquiry Officer to probe allegations of DG FIA Waseem Ahmed, who had alleged that "money" was used in release of Hanif Kalia, Munaf Kalia, Javed Khanani, Atif Aziz Polani and four bank officials - Syed Wajahat Ali, Arif Rehman, Tasleem Ahmed and Masood Altaf - who were facing trial in a case pertaining to illegal transfer of huge money abroad.
On March 4, 2011, Banking Court in Karachi had acquitted all accused facing charges of fraud under Foreign Exchange Regulatory Act and Prevention of Electronic Crimes Ordinance. After recording his statement, Waseem Ahmed told the newsmen that the FIA had prepared an appeal against the judgement of the Banking Court and would soon file it. "Whatever statement I've got recorded before the SHC Judge is confidential so I cannot share its content with media. It's a responsible statement. But, since the matter is under probe, so it will not be appropriate to share it," Waseem Ahmed said. The DG FIA further said: "I fully respect the judiciary and can't even think of giving any inappropriate statement about it."
