Speakers at the meeting of Shura Hamdard Karachi chapter have urged the government to overcome extremism and terrorism completely, terming this a precondition for progress, solidarity and safety of the country. The meeting was held Thursday on the theme "requirements of multi-dimensional independence", presided over by former Chief Justice, Haziqul Khairi at a local hotel. Mrs Sadia Rashid, President, Shura Hamdard Pakistan was also present at the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, former ambassador of Pakistan, Mahdi Masud emphasised that the evil of terrorism and extremism, which is the over-rising challenge for the country, be put an end to as political and economic stability and progress depend on the success in this regard. "It is important that we make an all out efforts to enlist strong popular support in the war on terror and expedite implementation of US aid promised under Kerry Lugar Bill for getting $1.5 billion", he said adding that according to the US Government Accounting Office, only $1.67 million were released in 2010 which shows very slow pace of flow of US aid.
Expressing his views, Dr Syed Irtefaq Ali said that if we got rid of our selfishness, we would be able to come out from the prevailing economic crisis. "We need to change our behaviour, because a nation does not progress through its natural resources but human resources", he remarked.
Addressing the meeting, Former Justice Haziquel Khairi was of the view that when there was no independence and democracy in political parties, how you could expect these things to flourish in the country. Political parties do not allow internal elections in their fold and make people hostage, he added. Professor Mohammed Rafi said that the root of all our social and political evils is laid in the injustice prevailing in our society.-PR
