Now that winter is finally here and cold winds are spilling across the country, Karachi might receive its first winter rain in coming weeks.
According to local media reports, Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Wednesday that Karachi is likely to receive rain during the winter. Mercury has dropped to 17°C in the metropolis, as it remained in the grip of winds that obtained speed of 23 kilometers per hour.
According to the monthly forecast by Pakistan Meteorological Department, two to three spells of rainfall are expected in different parts of the country, with snowfall on mountainous areas. Due to gradual fall in temperature, snow and glacier melt contribution to Indus will be minimal during the month. However, water availability will improve gradually due to 2–3 moderate rainfall spells in catchment areas.
Many private schools in Karachi are also announcing winter holidays on different dates, mostly starting from December 22 to January 4, 2018. However, as per the rumours, government will announce winter vacation from December 24 to January 1, 2018, official announcement by Sindh government is yet to be made.
