New taxation measures: FBR chief declines comments

Chairman of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Salman Siddiqui, refused to comment on Presidential Ordinances through which several taxes were imposed on various sectors of economy which may result in increased prices of all the items.
A meeting was arranged by Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Friday with Chairman FBR to discuss the presidential ordinances besides the ailing economic conditions, high inflation rate, increasing prices of essential goods, high cost of production, industries closing down, capital flight, increasing unemployment, frequent increases in power and gas tariffs and impact of increase in taxes on prices. The chamber had also invited media for the coverage of the event. Seeing the media present, Salman Siddiqui refused to discuss the issues and demanded that media representatives must leave the meeting room.
