MCB Bank (formerly known as Muslim Commercial Bank) would open four new branches in Sri Lanka by next year where six branches are already operational, making MCB one of the largest foreign banks in Sri Lanka. The chairman MCB Bank Mian Muhammad Mansha called on His Excellency the President, Mahinda Rajapakse, at the Temple Trees in Sri Lanka.
Mansha informed His Excellency the President that his group is keenly interested in participating in the economic development of the island. During the meeting the chairman MCB presented his group's overview, and in view of vast opportunities in the island, offered to invest in a number of ventures. He said that the new branches would be opened at Batticaloa, Kurunegala and in Colombo- 7. This, he added, would increase the number of MCB branches in Sri Lanka to 10.
Chairman MCB apprised President Mahinda Rajapakse of innovative technologies, which are being used by his group to produce power in Pakistan which could be replicated in Sri Lanka, if provided an opportunity in this regard. He assured the president that his group has attained global level efficiency in power generation and would serve the Sri Lankan consumers at competitive rates. Chairman MCB said that the post conflict Sri Lanka opens up great opportunity in the tourism industry and peace and tranquillity in the island would attract foreign tourists in large numbers if adequate facilities are made available for them. He showed keen interest in setting up hotels in the island that would provide top class services to the tourists visiting the picturesque island. The Chairman of MCB Bank thanked the President for his valuable time for providing opportunity for outlaying his proposals in participating and uplifting in the economic development of the country.-PR
