Cable operators urged to allow channels' transmission

20 Mar, 2011

Senator Pervaiz Rashid has called upon the cable operators not to discontinue provision of information and entertainment to the people by stopping transmission of TV channels so that people may not be deprived of effective communication and entertainment.
He said that the timely provision of important information and entertainment through electronic media is a fundamental right of the people through which the people not only remain aware of current affairs, but also about the reformatory aspects of the government.
Rashid counselled cable operators that if they have any complaint against the government, it is inappropriate to stop transmission of private channels instead of state-run channels. He further asked them not to deprive people of authentic news and force them to listen only to "government truth". He called upon cable operators to pay attention to their national obligation regarding provision of information to the people. He said that everyone reserves the right of peaceful protest but in case of any complaint against government, cable operators, instead of stopping the transmission of TV channels, should look for some other means of protest.
