60 suspects held in Islamabad

Islamabad Police in its on-going anti-social elements drive have arrested 60 persons allegedly involved in street crimes during the year and recovered looted items worth millions of rupees, 55 mobile phones, five cars and a motorbike from their possession, said Naeem Iqbal spokesman of Islamabad Police here on Monday.
The SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam following the directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Wajid Ali Durrani chalked out a special plan to curb street crime and all SHOs and patrolling officers were asked to ensure for effective policing as well as vigilance in their areas. As per the plan, record of those persons ever remained involved in street crime was also obtained by the police officials, besides ensuring their monitoring.
City Circle Police during the current year arrested six street criminals and recovered 20 mobile phones, while Saddar Circle police arrested 32 criminals from whom 19 mobile phones and three snatched cars were recovered. Industrial Circle police arrested 19 persons and recovered three mobile phones, cash and one snatched car from them. Likewise, Rural Zone nabbed three persons and recovered four mobile phones and one car from their possession. Islamabad police also apprehended 650 beggars during the year, while 670 suspects were also arrested against whom legal action was taken. It is our prime responsibility of the force to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens. Those police officials involved in dereliction of duties or adopting sluggish attitude would not be spared and strict disciplinary action would be taken against them, SSP said.
