Growers observed 'World Water Day' as black-day on the call of Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) to register their protest against Indian water aggression against Pakistan and indifferent attitude of the rulers towards the construction of Kalabagh Dam.
The farmers' community, wearing black bands around their arms, hoisted black flags on their houses and staged rallies at different places in the country on Tuesday, said KBP Secretary Information, Haji Muhammad Ramzan. The biggest rally was led by the board's Central President, Sardar Zafar Hussein and General Secretary Malik, Muhammad Ramzan Rohari in Larkana, while KBP leaders also addressed press conferences in different cities.
The speakers said that water aggression around the world is a reason behind the increasing water crisis in the world. They said that water aggression is directly affecting around 3.2 billion people. Also, over 250 rivers are used by more than one country and this leads to 'water aggression'. They predicted that water would be the next target of aggressive countries after taking possession of oil reservoirs in the world. Water issue may lead to next world war, they warned.
KBP leaders revealed that Pakistan has been deprived of three rivers completely and is also not getting 90 percent of the rest. Due to this water aggression, Pakistan's industrial and agricultural sector is under threat and there is a need to highlight this issue at the international level. They urged the rulers to play a forceful role in highlighting Indian water aggression. They regretted that despite admission by US senate about the aggression, our rulers did not exhibit the required boldness.
They also criticised those Pakistani governments in the past that ignored construction of new water reservoirs. They feared that Pakistan would not be in a position to construct any big dam by 2020. Although completion dates of Bhasha Dam have been given that of 2018 but it does not seem possible, they added.
The rallies staged by KBP workers were also addressed by Secretary Information, Haji Muhammad Ramzan in Kasur, Jam Hazur Bukhsh in Rajanpur, Zaheeruddin Chattha in Gujranwala, Amanullah Chattha in Hafizabad, Sadiq Khan Khakwani in Sadiqabad and various other cities.
