LHC moved against government for not providing free education

25 Mar, 2011

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has been approached against the government for not providing compulsory free education to the children of five to 16 years old as warranted in Articles 9, 25A and 37 of the constitution.
The petitioner a bar member Syed Faroz Shah submitted that less than two per cent of the national budget is being spent on education, while importance of education cannot be undermined for the progress and prosperity of a nation.
He contended that any further negligence towards the value of education is open to cause serious situations to the country in the time to come. He, therefore, prayed to the court to direct the respondents to make arrangements for provision of compulsory education.
