Government striving to make Pakistan a social-welfare state: Farzana

Chairperson Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), Farzana Raja has said that the philosophy behind establishment of Pakistan People Party was to uplift the lives of the people of Pakistan.
She said that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto had sacrificed their lives to achieve this objective and President Asif Ali Zardari and the Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani have faced prisons for many years in the continuity of the same struggle.
The present democratic government, she said, is striving to make Pakistan a social welfare state. The government would keep serving the masses of the country and would complete its constitutional term of five years. BISP is making significant contribution in the objective of uplifting the lives of marginalised segment of the society. She expressed this while speaking at the cheques distribution ceremony under Waseela-e-Haq scheme of BISP here at Governor House Lahore on Thursday. Besides others, Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Ahmad Khosa, President PPP Punjab Imtiaz Safdar Warraich, General Secretary PPP Punjab, Samiullah Khan, Akbra Khan and Faiza Malik were also present on the occasion.
While congratulating the beneficiary families on receiving cheques, Farzana Raja expressed her hope that the recipient women would initiate their own business and would achieve financial self sustainability for their families. Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Ahmad Khosa on the occasion said that BISP is a programme of the present democratic government which gives us a sense of pride. He said that the programme is highly instrumental in poverty alleviation.-PR
