SPLA's sit-in continues

26 Mar, 2011

Sindh Professors' Lecturers' Association (SPLA) continued their sit-in in front of D.J. Science College on the third consecutive day, here on Friday. It is pertinent to mention here that SPLA is protesting against the timeline formula, rationalisation and promotion of professors and lecturers.
A new plan of rallies has been conceived by SPLA to show the grievances of lecturers and professors, said Professor Iftikhar Aazmi, General Secretary SPLA Karachi region. It has been planned to take out rallies throughout Sindh in different areas of province. It would start from Saturday (today) and would continue till April 19.
SPLA demands to fill up the vacant seats of lecturers and professors in different colleges of Sindh before April 21 and issue a notification of timescale of lecturers. If government failed to fulfil its promise as it did on 10 November, 2011 in a board meeting to issue a notification for timescale promotions of teachers; then SPLA would boycott and stop teaching in the colleges.
During this boycott if examinations start then the boycott would remain continued and lecturers would not conduct the exams. "As a teacher if one stops teaching students he/she is committing a sin as it is a Harram act but it is government which is forcing teachers to perform a Harram act, Professor Aazmi concludes.
