Austria's OMV ends Iran Air fuel contract

28 Mar, 2011

Oil and gas group OMV said on Sunday it is not supplying Iran's state airline with fuel any more because of international sanctions against the Islamic Republic. "OMV fulfils all current regulations including (those of the) United States. Therefore we do not refuel Iran Air," company spokesman Sven Pusswald said, confirming a report in Austria's Wiener Zeitung.
The move means Iran Air planes can no longer fill up at Vienna airport at all, the paper reported in its weekend edition. OMV's contract with Iran Air expired on March 23, it said.
According to Wiener Zeitung, OMV was one of the last major oil companies that had been supplying Iran Air with fuel. Officials at Vienna Airport were not available for comment as to whether Iran Air planes had been grounded as a result.
