Five more ministries' devolution to provinces approved

Chairman Implementation Commission on 18th Amendment, Mian Raza Rabbani on Monday informed the Senate that Federal Cabinet has approved devolution of five more ministries to the provinces. Taking the Upper House of the Parliament into confidence, Rabbani said that the ministries that would be devolved after granting permission by the cabinet included Education, Social Welfare, Tourism, Culture and Livestock & Dairy Development.
He also assured the House that no employ of the ministries would be sacked or dislocated. Rabbani further said that six more ministries, with some provincial functions in the concurrent lists including Interior, Port and Shipping, Law and Justice, Communications, Finance and Revenue Department would also be devolved to the provinces in the third phase and the whole devolution process would be completed till June 30, 2011. To a point raised by Senator Haji Adeel regarding the issue of funds transferring to the provinces under National Finance Commission award, Rabbani said that a committee headed by Federal Finance Secretary was constituted to resolve the matter.
