A contest of hearts and brains

30 Mar, 2011

Doing the heart and brain analysis pertaining to the outcome of the World Cup Semi-final between Pakistan and India at Mohali, India is a logical, interesting and realistic proposition indeed. We, Pakistanis, naturally wish and pray our hearts out for a cherished Pakistani victory.
If we bat with a brisk start, steady our innings with ones and twos, avoid panicky run out situations, keep wickets intact for quick runs in the latter stage of the inning, utilise and capitalise on the batting power play at the right time and with the right batsmen, there is simply no reason why we cannot dominate, whether batting first or second.
If we bowl with nagging line and length and according to the field placing, plug fielding loopholes and avoid costly lapses, hold on to all our catches and make timely and pertinent bowling changes, the result obviously tends to look better and brighter in the ultimate analysis and outcome of the match. Therefore it is a practical and pragmatic combination of brain power, physical fitness and will power on the field that can transform our hearts aspiration. Meanwhile, it has to be borne in mind that it is a contest of hearts, brains, skills and stamina and odds favour a better team not on paper but in the field.
