Chief Minister Punjab approves Aashiyana Housing Schemes

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has granted approval to the launching of Aashiyana Housing Schemes for low-income people in Faisalabad, Sargodha, Jehlum and Sahiwal, and directed to start work on these schemes as early as possible.
He was presiding over a meeting regarding Aashiyana Housing Project here on Tuesday, disclosed an official. Chairman Punjab Land Development Company Sheikh Alauddin, member National Assembly Abid Sher Ali, members provincial Assembly Shehzadi Umerzadi Tiwana and Chaudhry Abdul Razaq Dhillon, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning and Development, Commissioners and District Co-ordination Officers of Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Sahiwal were also present on the occasion.
He said in accordance with the policy of the Punjab government, these schemes will be executed in a highly transparent manner and houses will be allotted through ballot. He said that Punjab Land Development Company has been established for the implementation of Aashiyana Housing Schemes. He said that Aashiyana Housing Schemes would be completed in all districts under the umbrella of the company, while District Co-ordination Officers will serve as resident directors in the concerned districts.
He also issued instructions for setting up a high level committee comprising Chairman Punjab Land Development Company, Senior Member Board of Revenue, Chairman Planning and Development, Secretary Finance and DCOs of the concerned districts to evolve a comprehensive system for the implementation of the project in various districts. He said that after Lahore, approval has been given for Aashiyana Housing Schemes in four other districts and the scope of this project will be extended to the whole province.
The Chief Minister appreciated the performance of District Co-ordination Officer Faisalabad Nasim Sadiq regarding construction of more than 135 four-Marla houses in Faisalabad under self-help basis. He said it is an exemplary welfare project and replicating this model in other districts and tehsils of the province should be considered, while state land should be identified for this purpose. Earlier, DCOs of Sargodha, Faisalabad, Jehlum and Sahiwal identified various sites for Aashiyana Housing Schemes in their respective districts. They said excellent locations have been identified nearest to the cities for this purpose.
