THE RUPEE: dollar, euro up

The rupee moved both ways against dollar on the currency market on Thursday in process of trading, dealers said. The rupee shed eight paisa for buying and selling at 85.32 and 85.37, they said. In the fourth Asian trade yen hit a fresh 10-month low versus euro and touched a three-week trough against dollar as expectations mounted that Japan would lag the euro zone and US central banks in raising interest rates.
Indian rupee was trading at Rs 44.75 versus dollar, Malaysian ringgit was at 3.0250 against the greenback and Chinese yuan was available at 6.5562 in terms of the US currency.
Inter-bank buy/sell rates for taka against dollar on Thursday: 72.75/72.80 (previous 72.75/72.80). Call Money Rates: 4.00-6.00 percent (previous 3.50-8.00 percent).

According to the currency dealers, the dollar resumed trading at its Wednesday closing of Rs 85.15 and Rs 85.35 on buying and selling sides, respectively. However, at the end of trading, the dollar was marginally improved on buying side to Rs 85.20, while its selling rate stayed unchanged at Rs 85.40, the dealers said.
On the contrary, the rupee failed to maintain upward slide and declined against the British pound. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 136.80 and Rs 137.60, as compared to overnight closing of Rs 136.50 and Rs 137.30, respectively, they added.
The dollar resumed trading at Rs 85.25 (buying) and Rs 85.35 (selling) against the last rate. It did not observe further change in the evening session and closed at Rs 85.25 (buying) and Rs 85.35 (selling).
Pound Sterling opened at Rs 136.40 (buying) and Rs 137.50 (selling) against the previous rate. It did not witness any change in the evening session and closed at Rs 136.40 (buying) and Rs 137.50 (selling).
