The Academic Staff Association (ASA) of the state-run Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST) expressed grave concerns over the reported devolution of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to the provinces, it was officially declared.
The Academic Staff Association of MUST met here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of its President Professor Muhammad Iqbal to discuss the prevailing situation caused by the reported devolution of the HEC, an official release of the ASA issued here said. It continued that the ASA meeting unanimously passed a resolution strongly opposing, what it called, the unlawful transfer of the HEC functionaries to the provinces.
The meeting emphatically viewed that the aforesaid decision about devolution of the HEC to the provinces might cause chaotic situation in universities functioning in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, the release said. The official release further said the ASA of MUST strongly supported the autonomous status of the HEC as a Federal Regulatory Authority for higher education bound to report directly to the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
