Scattered rains in hilly areas predicted

08 Apr, 2011

Meteorological department has predicted scattered rains/dust storms for three days from Friday to Sunday. Met Office said that a fresh westerly wave is likely to enter in Balochistan on Friday that would grip most parts of Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa (KPK), Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and Kashmir on Saturday/Sunday.
Under the influence of this weather system scattered rain/thunderstorm is expected over northern Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Friday to Sunday, while scattered rain/dust-thundershowers are expected in KPK, Upper Punjab and GB-Kashmir from Saturday to Monday. Met office advised the farmers not to irrigate their crops during these three days as the expected rain in Punjab and KPK would be accompanied by gusty winds.
The probability of occurrence of isolated hail-storm in the sub-mountainous areas of KPK and North Punjab during the weekend (Saturday/Sunday) cannot be ruled out. Met office further stated that due to prevailing La-Nina conditions, the current winter/spring seasons in Middle East and South Asia remained wetter than normal. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan have already received above normal rains during late winter/spring this year.
