Lahore High Court here Thursday issued notice to Punjab government for April 19 in a petition challenging appointment of eight directors of Punjab Education Foundation (PEF). Earlier, the court heard initial arguments of the petitioner and observed that it will ensure implementation of merit policy.
The petition was filed by Muhammad & Ahmad, a public litigation firm, through Muhammad Azhar Siddique, submitting that the PEF was first established under Punjab Education Foundation Act 1991 but the Act was dissolved through Punjab Education Foundation Act 2004 and the foundation was dismissed. According to Section 5 of the new law, the petitioner submitted, a board comprising seven government and eight non-government directors were to be constituted to run the affairs of foundation.
