The Old Ravians Union (ORU) has passed a resolution against the devolution of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), saying that it would adversely affect the higher education in Pakistan and discourage the students.
The resolution was passed unanimously at the meeting of the ORU Executive Committee at the Government College University (GCU) Lahore. The meeting was chaired by ORU President Dr Samar Mubarikmand, a national hero and noted nuclear scientist.
The ORU Executive Committee demanded the government that the HEC should have been strengthened instead it was dissolved. "The HEC should have been given the responsibility of curriculum designing and appointing vice chancellors, so that uniform and integrated national education system could be established," it added.
The meeting also praised the appointment of Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt, as the head of Political Science Department and hoped that he would advance the research and academic activities of the department.
Later, Dr Samar Mubarikmand and ORU Executive Committee watched the Mumtaz Mufti's magnum opus "Nizam Saqqa" at the GC University Lahore presented by the GCU Dramatics Club and praised the performance of the students.
