The three years of present democratic setup has given many gifts and surprises to the people of Pakistan. This includes corruption, inflation, unemployment and worsening law and order situation. Nobody seems safe. The kidnapping for ransom has increased all over the country. Karachi has also witnessed rise in kidnapping cases during the last three years. There is a change of pattern in kidnapping for ransom cases and now even school-going children are not spared.
Till recently kidnappers, however, were not targeting senior citizens. But according to a latest case, a 78-year-old man was kidnapped from Gulshan-e-Maymar. He was kept in a nearby village namely Mullah Easa Brohi Goth. The criminals are using goths for hiding kidnapped persons from Karachi. This is a very serious situation. The houses used as a sanctuary by the kidnappers in Brohi Goth must be subjected to thorough checking and the family that facilitated the kidnappers to keep 78-year-old man should be arrested.
It is heartening to know that one kidnapper was killed and the role played by CPLC in sorting out the case is also very encouraging. It is a ray of hope for the people of Karachi who otherwise are very pessimistic about the performance of police. Police generally fail to make proper investigation in cases as a result, criminal get acquitted by the courts.
This also needs to be looked into by the authorities and failure in proper investigation should be considered as connivance with criminals. I appeal Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court to take suo motu notice of this case of kidnapping of 78-year-old man to ensure that investigation is carried out in right direction and justice is done.
