The Australian and New Zealand dollars rebounded against the yen on Wednesday, halting a two-day slide as a short-squeeze rally in the Japanese currency came to an abrupt end. The Aussie rose as high as 88.27 yen, climbing from a one-week trough of 86.83. This followed a 3.6 percent slide from a 2-1/2 year high of 90.04 on Monday.
Against the US dollar, the Aussie edged up to $1.0479, from around $1.0437 late in New York on Tuesday. It hit a 29-year high of $1.0585 last Friday before losing some momentum. Meanwhile, the New Zealand dollar climbed 1 percent against the yen to a session high at 66.22 yen, well off a one-week low around 64.69 set on Tuesday and bringing last week's 11-month high of 66.72 back in sight. The kiwi was up around 0.4 percent versus the greenback at $0.7859.
