Call to streamline duty structure of police officials

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Wajid Ali Durrani has stressed the need for streamlining the duty structure of the police officials to boost their performance and to purge the city from criminals. Top Police Officers should take care of their subordinate staff and ensure fix duty timings instead of overburdening them to boost their performance, the IGP said while talking to police officers and officials during his visit to SSP Office, here on Friday.
The IGP was given briefing about the performance of operational police. DIG (Operations) Bani Amin Khan, SSP Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan, AIG (Operations) Ehsan Sadiq, SPs of all Zones, SDPOs and other police officials were also present on the occasion. Durrani directed to take elaborate measures to curb crime and ensure protection to the lives and property of citizens through effective policing. He said that police have the prime responsibility to serve citizens and ensure safety to them adding that no sluggish attitude would be tolerated in this regard.
He also asked to make newly planned beat system' more effective and divide the jurisdiction of each police station at least into four beats with its overall two in-charges in addition to Station House Officer. The IGP said that plain cloth police officials must be deputed in various beats to monitor the activities of suspicious elements. He said that duty hours must be fixed for policemen and no cop in the beat would perform duty more than eight hours.
Durrani after assuming the charge of IGP ordered to facilitate the low ranking police officials and termed them as `backbone' of the force. With the same commitment, he has ordered not to over burden the low ranking staff and fix their duty hours not more than eight hours.
The IGP also directed SPs of all zones to conduct checking in their areas by themselves and ensure that all deputed staff is performing their duties in a responsible manner. He said that basic idea behind the beat system is to curb crime and the beat officers must be fully acquainted about geography. Through the system, beat officers will come to know about the `hard hit areas' in their locations and they can combat crime effectively through monitoring of such areas as well as suspected elements. The SSP thanked IGP Islamabad for his visit and ensured to take comprehensive measures to provide maximum relief to people through effective policing.
