The National Assembly was informed on Friday that due to shortage of water the country's major reservoir Tarbela Dam has reached dead level due to which the power units were generating less electricity. Responding to a call attention notice, Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar said that 14 power houses of the Tarbela Dam have power generation capacity of 3478 megawatt, which are not fully operational due to water shortage.
He, however, said that these would be fully operational when water level rises. Qamar, while responding a question rejected some media reports regarding stealing of water from Tabela Dam and termed these reports as false, adding that no water has been stolen from the Dam.
Earlier, MNAs Abdul Majeed Khan Khanankhel, Raja Mohammad Asad, Nighat Parveen Mir and others moved a call attention notice regarding relase of 3 lac cusec water form Tarbela Dam and closure of its 11 productive units. While expressing grave concerns over the situation they said that there were reports that water have been stolen from the dam and asked the government to take notice of the situation.
