Bearish sentiment dominated the Lahore Stock Exchange on Tuesday and equities registered declines amid descending transaction volume on account of lack of interest on the part of investors. The LSE-25 index lost 32.94 points and closed at 3201.84 against 3234.78 of Monday while trading turnover decreased to 1.516 million shares as compared to 1.886 million shares.
The market opened on a depressed note and kept on moving in negative zone throughout the day. Most of the investors remained on the sidelines that resulted in low trading activity. Attock Refinery, Pakistan Refinery, PPL and Kot Addu Power resisted selling pressure while Arif Habib Corporation, Javed Omer Vohra and Company, Dewan Slaman Fibre showed marginal improvement.
However, because of profit taking, most of the blue chips including Engro Corporation, Fauji Fertiliser, MCB Bank, Habib Bank, United Bank, National Bank, Askari Bank, Bank Alfalah, Silk Bank, D.G Khan Cement, Lotte Pakistan PTA, Nishat Mills and Pakistan Reinsurance remained under selling pressure. The losers were more than the gainers, as out of a total of 110 active issues, 19 companies registered gains and 36 posted losses, while values of 55 companies stayed glued to their previous levels.
