Chinese envoy gifts 10 computers, other accessories to GCU

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Liu Jian has gifted ten latest computers, software and other accessories to the Government College University (GCU)Lahore, with which the university has established a high-tech computer laboratory for students at the Postgraduate Library for online access of electronic journals, books and other digital material.
GCU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ikramul Haq Tuesday inaugurated the laboratory, while Dean of Arts and Social Sciences Professor Khalid Perviaz, Chief Librarian Abdul Waheed and heads of various departments were also present on this occasion. Speaking on the occasion, the vice chancellor said that Chinese Ambassador Liu Jian during his visit to GCU last month had made a promise to provide computers and scholarships to GCU students which he promptly fulfilled.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony, GCU Chief Librarian Abdul Waheed said the Library has access to more than 25,000 electronic journals and more than 45,000 electronic books covering the disciplines of natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. GCU Library is the only library from Pakistan that is the partner of World Digital Library, a co-operative project of the Library of Congress (LOC) and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco), and a member of Delnet which is the largest resource sharing network in Asia.
