The Punjab government has issued notification to abolish 427 posts of EDOs, District Officer Revenue (DORs) and Deputy District Officers (DDOs) while another notification for creation of 334 posts of Additional Commissioners, Additional Collectors, Assistant Commissioners, Collectors and Registrars has also been issued.
In Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Multan and Gujranwala, the posts of DCOs have been downgraded from BPS-21 to BPS-20 while the posts of EDO Literacy, EDO Revenue, EDO Law and EDO Information Technology have been abolished in all districts of the Punjab.
The notification will be effective as from Wednesday (today), sources said. According to the notification, all the matters pertaining to revenue have been transferred to Board of Revenue and amendments in Local Government Ordinance have also been made for this purpose. The relevant clause of PLGO in which all the divisional and regional offices had to cease their work has also been omitted.
According to the notification, 36 posts of EDO IT, 36 posts of EDO Literacy, 36 posts of EDO Revenue and 36 posts of EDO Law will be abolished from Wednesday (today). Similarly, 36 posts of DORs (one at each district), 135 posts of Deputy District Officer Revenue (one at each sub-division), 36 posts of Deputy District Officer General (one at each district) and 10 posts of Deputy District Officer Colonies (one each in Faisalabad, Sahiwal, Toba Tek Singh, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, Jhang, Pakpattan, Bhakkar, Khushab and Chiniot), relating to land revenue and Estate will be abolished with effect from Wednesday (today).
As many as, 14 posts of Deputy District Officer Consolidation (one each in Lahore, Kasur, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Attock, Sargodha, Mianwali, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Multan, Sahiwal and Jhang) and 52 posts of Deputy District Officer Registration (six in Lahore, one in Kasur, two in Sheikhupura and Ferozwala, one each in Nankana Sahib, Hafizabad, Narowal, Mandi Bahouddin, Gujrat, Chakwal, Attock, Jehlum, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Bhakkar, Jhang, Chiniot, Toba Tek Singh, Lodhran, Vehari, Khanewal, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Okara, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan, two each in Sialkot and Bahawalpur, three each in Gujranwala, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad will be abolished from Wednesday (today). One post of Additional Commissioner Revenue and one Additional Commissioner Consolidation has been created in Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan and Bahawalpur while one post of Additional Commissioner Revenue in Sahiwal, Sargodha and DG Khan each. 36 posts of Additional Collector of the district (one in each district), 135 posts of Assistant Commissioners (one in each sub-divisions), 36 posts of Collector (one in each district), 36 posts of General Assistant Revenue in the office of the Collector of the district (one in each district) and 10 posts of Colony Assistants in the office of the Collector of the concerned district have also been created.
About 14 posts of Collector Consolidation and 52 posts of sub-registrar have also been created. It may be noted that the Punjab government had planned to save Rs 1.5 billion by abolishing various project management units and companies and curtailing their staff's salaries. Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif had approved the recommendations of a cabinet committee to scrap 550 posts in the Punjab administration and police, which would save Rs 6.1 billion annually.
