Power shortfall is likely to touch 5,000MW in the absence of any reversal to the prevailing gap between generation and demand in the country. According to the Pepco sources, the power shortfall has touched 4600MW during last 24 hours due to reduction in hydel generation.
Power generation stood at 9892MW against a demand of 14512MW, leaving the system with a total shortfall of 4620MW. Meanwhile, power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs was recorded at 2323MW, 1537MW, 5917MW and 115MW respectively. Power supply to the KESC remained 710MW. According to Pepco sources, short supply of water and gas to the power generation units due to abnormal weather conditions has resulted into low generation, ultimately translating into unbearable shortfall.
