Speakers at a function held in connection with the 73rd death anniversary of poet/philosopher Allama Mohammad Iqbal, here on Thursday, paid glowing tributes to the great thinker and said his philosophy was based on patriotism and Muslim unity.
The function was jointly organised by Markazi Majlis-e-Iqbal, Nazria Pakistan Trust and Tehreek-e-Pakistan Trust here at Alhamra Hall. Veteran journalist Majid Nizami presided while among others Senator S.M. Zafar, Tehmina Doultana, Rana Mushhood Ahmed Khan, Bushra Rehman, Allama Ahmed Ali Kasuri and Qayyum Nizami spoke on the occasion.
The speakers shed light on different aspects of life and teachings of Allama Iqbal and said he gave a vision for a modern Islamic state based on democracy, justice and progressive ideas. Senator S.M. Zafar said ideas of Allama Iqbal could be helpful for reconstruction of the Pakistani nation. He said Iqbal underlined the need for exploration of self, and taught how to explore it.
Allama Ahmed Ali Kasuri said Iqbal did not follow a particular school of thought, rather he advocated the universal message of Islam. He said the Islamic world is passing through a crucial period and Iqbal gave a message as how to pass through such a difficult period.
Tehmina Doultana said through his poetry, Iqbal gave clear messages to the Muslims, as how to face challenges of the 21st century and his poetry is an asset for the entire world. Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly, Rana Mushhood Ahmed Khan said the 1940 resolution was so powerful that within a short period of time, British rulers accepted the demand for a separate country for the Muslims and within seven years a new country was created. He underlined the need for spreading the message of Iqbal for development and progress of the entire world.
He also highlighted different aspects of Iqbal's personality and elaborated the relationship of history and civilisation. Mushhood said, "We want continuation of system for the stability of the country and resolution of problems posed to the country." He said that anti-state elements are bent upon to weaken the country. At this critical juncture the need of the hour is to show determination and commitment to tackle the challenges for the ultimate benefit of public at large. He said massive corruption and plundering of national wealth are root causes of the present price spiral and unemployment.
