Pakistan Industrial and Traders Association Front (PIAF), Chairman Sohail Lashari has urged upon the Federal Board of Revenue to stop tax officials from harassing the already crisis-hit business community in the name of tax collection otherwise trade bodies would launch strong protests.
PIAF chief, in a statement on Friday said the present regime has disappointed business community and has failed to show its commitment in resolving the difficulties being faced by the trade and industry. He said that groundless policies have thrown the industrial sector into deep mire.
Business community on one hand is facing prolonged electricity and gas shortage, and bad law and order situation and soaring inflation, while the other, being disturbed by discretionary powers of tax department officials. He said that hostile and unfavourable policies had drove thousands industrial units to closure besides leaving thousands of industrial workers jobless. He further said that massive energy crisis and lack of conducive business environment phenomenally almost halted the production of remaining industry.
Lashari said that instead of giving relief measures, FBR officials are busy in adding fuel to fire and multiplying woes of business community. He said that PIAF has received a number of complaints that the department is unnecessarily harassing the business community and creating an atmosphere of harassment.
