Gulshan-e-Sikandarabad: massive encroachments under way

23 Apr, 2011

Massive encroachments are underway at Gulshan-e-Sikandarabad, a precious land belonging to Karachi Port Trust (KPT) worth billions of rupees by reclaiming the Chinna Creek. A very useful backwater serves as a lung to Karachi Harbour, Sikandar Jadoon is the leader of the mafia and is controlling the area through using his influence.
Only KPT, through its Act is authorised to reclaim land for development of port and backup area for the storage of cargo, which the port requires from time to time and is extremely precious in value. There are no immediate reclamation plans in Eastern backwaters. Any other reclamation is strictly forbidden. The Katchi Abadi in this area is being constantly expanded under the supervision of nefarious elements.
The infamous leader of the land mafia group, Sikandar Jadoon, first attacked on KPT Estate Manager and Judicial Magistrate through direct firing from automatic weapons while officials were monitoring the area. An FIR number 187/2011 was registered against him in Jackson Police Station. Couple of days later, the mafia under the leadership of Sikandar Jadoon took under siege the joint check post of Police and Port Security Force (PSF) and put it on fire. They even opened fire on officials of PSF KPT, including a DSP and three SHOs of the area. KPT again registered an FIR number 235/11 in Jackson Police Station against the mafia group.
The Mukhtyar Kar also registered an FIR number 22/2011 against Sikandar Jadoon according to prevailing rules and regulations of Anti Encroachment Act incorporated under the Board of Revenue, however, so far it resulted in no arrests. The eastern backwaters form an important reservoir for maintaining the hydraulic regime of the harbour. Land mafia is doing massive encroachments under the umbrella of Goth Abad Scheme on land starting from Hawks Bay (Younusabad, etc), Muchchar Colony, Shireen Jinnah and going all the way to Sikandarabad.-PR
