Federal Minister for Environment and Women Development Samina Khalid Ghurki has in principle approved the Draft of Climate Change Policy while chairing a Core Group Meeting on Climate Change here on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Federal Secretary of Environment Khwaja Muhammad Naeem, Director General Environment Jawaid Ali Khan, former state minister of environment Malik Ameen Aslam, Dr Qamar Uz Zaman Chaudhry, Dr Aurangzeb, representatives of federal and provincial departments and other environmental experts.
Ghurki said that Pakistan is the most vulnerable country due to global warming and climate change. Pakistan is low contributor of the pollution, while it is the most-affected country in the global community. She said that it is the need of the time to take comprehensive measures to meet the challenges of the global warming and climate change.
The Federal Minister said that Pakistan is facing extraordinary pressure of the worse impact of climate change, however, sustainable and long-lasting plans of action and different projects have to be made to tackle these challenges. She informed the meeting that the Ministry of Environment is taking serious initiatives in this regard.
She was of the view that Climate Change Policy Draft is a landmark initiative of the Ministry of Environment. She lauded the efforts of all Core Group members who rendered their services for this mission. Federal Secretary Environment said that Climate Change Policy Draft has been finalised after continuous consultation with all provinces and stakeholders. Their suggestions and proposals were taken into account and a draft has been made with national spirit.-PR
