The PML-N and PML-Q opposition members in the National Assembly strongly criticised the drone attacks in the presence of 13-member US Congressional delegation of the State of Georgia in speaker's gallery of the House on Tuesday. When the delegation entered the House, the Speaker and the members of the Lower House welcomed it thumping the desks.
While criticising drone attacks, Ms Marvi Memon of PML-Q said on a point of order, "Don't appreciate drone attacks, now it is up to the government to make public if any agreement has been made with the US. These attacks are against the sovereignty of Pakistan. We do not appreciate the visit of the delegation," Naseer Bhutta of PML-N said that America should respect the sovereignty of Pakistan and stop drone attacks.
"America often says do more, we have done it many a times now it is up the US to do more. There is no need of relations between the CIA and ISI rather people to people contact of both the countries is the need of the hour." He said that Pakistan has played unprecedented role in fight against terrorism. Syed Sumsam Bukhari of PPP said that Pakistan is fighting war on terror for the last 11-years. In this war, we have given a lot of blood and gathered tears, he said.
"Pak-US relations are important. We are fighting war on terror but we also need respect to our values. Pakistan is a sovereign state and its sovereignty must be respected. I urge the delegation to play a role of ambassador for good Pak-US relations," he said. About Western media, he said that Western media is not portraying real picture in the world. He added that we are a peaceful nation. We paid huge price as a nation in fighting this war, he said. "We must respect of each religion, nation, ideas and sect," he said. He said that America is champion of democracy and we are striving for democracy in the country.
