Partly Facetious: Did the Prime Minister remember withdrawal of notification?

29 Apr, 2011

"Prime Minister said on the floor of the House that the country's intelligence agencies do exactly what the government wants them to do."
"I see, so it's just that the government doesn't tell them what to do."
"Don't be facetious."
"Did the Prime Minister remember that when a notification was issued that brought the ISI within the ambit of Rehman Malik it had to be withdrawn within 24 hours."
"Maybe that was because of Rehman Malik. I mean did you see his latest picture - holding a ribbon as the Prime Minister cuts it while inaugurating a health centre in Bara Kahu."
"Well, the terror alert must have been low that day!"
"Don't be facetious! And do you recall the numerous times our Prime Minister has directed one or the other of his cabinet member to do something and then nothing gets done."
"If you are referring to his directions to the Minister of Water and Power then you must surely know that those were tactics employed by him to disclaim personal responsibility for the load shedding..."
"How can he do that?"
"Easily, our Prime Minister is no longer considered a viable alternative to the true leadership of the party any more - the days when he was being urged to break from the President and bring about good governance are gone."
"Right, and now the President has revealed that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will be back by September to take over some of the responsibilities as co-chairman."
"Why September?"
"Why not September?"
"Well, I had heard he was completing his studies in the UK but the holiday season is now not in September."
"Depends on what and where he is studying?"
"Doesn't the academic year in the UK begin around end September/October?"
"Yes, but I don't think he is studying in a university. Maybe he is working there, you know as an intern and..."
"Ah yes, internships abroad by our future leaders! Even our former Foreign Minister's son did an internship with a US congressman."
"Indeed."
