Karachi remains shut on MQM's mourning day: vehicles torched in various areas

The city remained completely closed on Sunday as Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) observed mourning day against the killing of its leader, former MPA Liaquat Qureshi. During the day, about a dozen vehicles were burnt by arsonists and at least two commuters were injured when armed men opened fire on minibuses plying on the roads.
All markets and bazaars of the city remained closed here on Sunday. However, incidents of violence were reported from many areas of the city, in which miscreants opened firing on minibuses and burnt vehicles.
Two commuters were injured when armed men opened fire on a minibus of D-11 route at Malir Halt bus stop, in the limits of Saudabad police station. The injured were identified as Saim, 28, wife of Mushtaq and Asif, 38, son of Niaz, who were rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment.
In other incidents, 11 vehicles were torched by the unidentified miscreants in Nipa Chowrangi, Burns Road, Akbar Market, Ibrahim Hydari, Liaqatabad and other areas.
Police and rangers patrolled in the tense areas of the city to control law and order.
