The Senators have demanded of the government to take the Parliament into confidence on Osama bin Laden killing in Abbottabad by the US forces. Speaking on a point of order here on Monday at start of the opening day of the session, Senator Ishaq Dar of Pakistan Muslim League (N) regretted that the government has not yet come out with a clear statement on the incident taking place at Abbottabad in which US forces reportedly killed Osama bin Laden.
Dar said that the reports coming out clearly suggest that the operation was conducted by the US Marines and was interference in the sovereignty of the country. Dar said that in the light of the unfolding events, it was imperative for the Prime Minister to take the Parliament into confidence to counter the blame against the country.
Hasil Bazango of Balochistan National Party termed the incident as important for Pakistan as 9/11 was for the US and called upon the government for taking the people into confidence. He said the killing of Osama in Abbotabad has established the US claim that he was hiding in Pakistan after escaping from Afghanistan. He deplored that the government was more interested in expansion of Cabinet instead of taking the Parliament and the people into confidence on this important development.
Professor Khurshid Ahmed of Jamiat-e-Islami said this is the right of the Parliament and nation to know about the facts but the government and army are silent on the issue. He said that the entrance of foreign forces inside Pakistan was a serious matter. Maulana Gul Nasseb Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) said that international forces are now hatching conspiracies against Pakistan after causing destruction in Afghanistan and urged the government to devise future strategy after confessing their mistakes.
Abdul-Rahim Mandokhel of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) said that the government is required to go after the terrorist elements more forcefully to purge the country of them. He said that these elements have made the country hostage. PML-N Senator Raja Zafarul Haq said Pakistan sacrifices in the war against terrorism after the 9/11 are unmatched but Abbottabad incident may have serious consequences for Pakistan.
He said that no Pakistani was involved in the 9/11 but the country suffered immense losses. He demanded of the Prime Minister to take the Parliament into confidence by sharing details of the incident before leaving for foreign visit. Leader of the House Nayyar Bukhari assured the senators that he would convey their message and feeling to the Prime Minister on this important issue. The Chairman Senate, Farooq H Naek said to the leader of the House to inform the Senate after taking information from the government.
