Liquor worth millions of rupees seized

Huge quantity of liquor worth millions of rupees in international market was seized by the Model Collectorate of Customs (MCC), PaCCS here on Monday. According to details, the MCC PaCCS at Karachi Custom House received the information that unscrupulous elements were trying to clear consignments of imported liquor in the guise of diplomatic consignment.
Accordingly the collector MCC PaCCS constituted a 'Special Task Team' under the additional collector in charge of the 'Research & Development' section of the Collectorate, which mounted monitoring through the user friendly PaCCS software to apprehend the consignment. Regular online and confidential scrutiny of the imports was targeted through specially targeted system checks and this led to the successful detention of one such container load of suspected goods.
Since the consignment was imported in the name of a friendly country with which Pakistan has diplomatic relations the R&D special task team at the MCC PaCCS fulfilled all the legal confirmations from the relevant quarters and also availed the co-operation of the Foreign Office at Islamabad. The container bearing HDMU2571680 comprising a huge quantity of 6448.74 liters of foreign origin WHISKY was seized on April 30, 2011.
FIR MCC/MISC/261/2011-R&D dated May 2, 2011 has been lodged against the perpetrators of this attempted fraud to illegally bring in contraband liquor in the country. The collector MCC PaCCS has announced certificates of commendation for the 'Special Task Team' and took up the case for grant of special reward to the officers and staff who made efforts to succeed apprehending this criminal and anti state activity.-PR
