Advisory to growers

Agricultural experts have advised cotton growers that best suitable time for cotton sowing in primary districts of Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan is from May 1 to June 7, while sowing in secondary districts such as Faisalabad and Sahiwal should be completed by May 31.
An advisory issued by Punjab Agriculture Department here Monday said that growers should sow cotton on beds and make these at a distance of 2.5 feet and keep them high from eight to 10 inches for better production. It said that distance between plants should also be kept from six to nine inches.
A spokesman of the department said it has also been advised that second watering should be done after five to six days of sowing and only approved, quality, pure and healthy seed should be used for sowing. He further said that eight kilograms of seeds per acre should be used and pesticides should be applied to these seeds before sowing in consultation with local agriculture experts.
