Power situation remained static to 2,500MW for the second consecutive day with improvement in weather conditions as well as fuel supply to thermal units. Resultantly, power shortfall reduced by 50 percent in last two days from over 5,000MW last week against 2,500MW at the weekend.
Power generation stood at 12,452MW against a demand of 15,032MW, putting the accumulative shortfall at 2,580MW. Supply to KESC stood at 720MW. According to Pepco sources, power generation through hydel, thermal, IPPs and RPPs remained 4711MW, 1714MW, 5959MW and 68MW respectively.
It may be noted that Managing Director, Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco), Rasul Khan Mehsud had hoped considerable improvement in the power situation with the fresh fuel supply. Also, water availability at the dams is also on the rise that is improving hydel generation in the country. However, still, four to five hours of load-shedding is being observed in the urban and six to eight hours in rural levels. Besides, energy supply to the industrial sector is in a terribly bad situation, leading to heavy closure of Pakistan's major textile industry, which has already been crippled due to the unprecedented gas load-shedding during summer season.
