The world is right?

08 May, 2011

For years, the world at large and the US, the Afghans and Nato, in particular, have been asserting that al Qaeda leader, Osama bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan. From the dictatorial regime of Pervez Musharraf to the current so-called democratic government along with the credibility deficit intelligence agencies, have all along been denying presence of Osama in Pakistan.
Lo and behold, the Americans find bin Laden comfortably living, as good neighbour to the prestigious military institution, Pakistan Military Academy Kakul, and subsequently kill him in an early morning commando attack while our security and intelligence agencies slept, unaware of the sneaking of the four US helicopters into Pakistan and assault by American navy's Seal commandos to eliminate bin Laden!
This is a most serious development, brazen breach of Pakistan's sovereignty, wanton incursion into country's defences, that too, without the knowledge of the nation's security forces and intelligence agencies. In any civilised society many heads of the individuals responsible for nation's defence and security, would have rolled.
But no such thing will happen in Pakistan, for we have incompetent and spineless individuals running the country. One wonders how many in the Establishment and the government were on the take from Osama to provide him safe haven in Abbottabad.
The world is right when it calls our country an "epicenter" of terrorism, the current dispensation as one of the most corrupt governments in the world, our leaders and politicians as unreliable.
The world has been saying for years that Mullah Omar and his so-called 'Quetta Shura' are nestled in Balochistan, a claim denied by our government and the establishment. We should not be surprised if some day, the Americas carry out an Abbottabad like commando strike in Quetta to take out Mullah Omar.
Nobody in the world, like the 170 million Pakistanis trust the country's government, its leaders and politicians. Nearly half of our legislators, including some ministers, hold fake degrees. How can one expect fake degree holders to be honest, reliable and trust worthy?
Look at the way, the Jehadi and sectarian extremist elements and banned outfits are allowed to openly operate under different names with the same agenda. Only the other day, the Jamaat-ud-Dawa came out to offer prayers for the departed soul of bin Laden.
Incompetent and crooked cronies, in complete defiance and disregard of merit and requisite qualifications, are appointed as Managing Directors and directors to head public sector organisations.
The government has mastered the art of defying judicial decisions and directives through manipulative machination. The matters pertaining to NRO, NAB appointments, opening of Swiss bank accounts, FIA inquiries and investigations, in this context, are some of the most glaring examples. Corruption has not even spared the Hajj where thousands of pilgrims were defrauded by Ministry of Religious Affairs, all in the name of religion. The world is right. Our rogue leaders and politicians have turned this, "land of the pure" into a land to loot and plunder. It is time to search our souls: are we a nation of crooks and rogues?
