Three million children enrolled in Punjab primary schools

As many as three million children have been given admission in the schools so far as a result of primary enrolment campaign launched by the Punjab government. It expects to achieve 100 percent literacy rate in the province during next two years, Punjab Education Minister Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman said here on Thursday.
Addressing a private school function, Rehman said that Punjab government had increased 75 percent education budget, as compared to previous governments, which reflect keen interest of the present government in promotion of education in the province.
"Punjab Endowment Fund and Daanish school projects have been started for the poor but talented children, which has been appreciated by all sections of society", he added. The minister said that Punjab government believes that poverty, terrorism, ignorance and unemployment can only be eliminated through promotion of education.
