Development of telecom services PTCL, USF join hands

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has joined hands with Universal Service Fund (USF) to promote development of telecom services in destitute areas across the country. A press release issued here on Friday said that PTCL has redefined established boundaries of telecommunications market and is shifting productivity functions to new heights.
PTCL is in partnership with USF for projects in basic telephony access, broadband and optical fibre connectivity in non-served areas of the country and extending optical fibre connectivity to remote areas of Balochistan province to connect them with national optical fibre backbone network. President and CEO PTCL, Walid Irshaid on the occasion said that we at PTCL support WTISD 2011 theme for an improved, secure and healthier world for ourselves and future generations.
"Being the industry leader and a socially responsible organisation we are aware of our responsibilities and understand the importance of providing the benefits of ICT growth to the rural areas of the country" he stated. He further said that PTCL is committed to ensure that people everywhere have reasonable access to information and communication technologies.
On International World Telecom Day, PTCL has resolved to fully bind the great potential of the digital revolution in the service of life-saving relief operations, sustainable development and lasting peace in the rural areas. It has taken major initiatives to upgrade its network connecting small tiny villages in the rural areas believing that ICTs are means of providing accessible and affordable information and education, while allowing marginalized groups to play a key role in economic development. PTCL Broadband aims to deliver these social and economic benefits of ICTs to the rural areas through affordable broadband.-PR
