Australia to provide increased assistance to Bangladesh

16 May, 2011

The Australian government will provide $A92 million (7.1 billion taka) in official development assistance to Bangladesh for the fiscal year to end June 2012, an increase of $A22 million from the previous year, a statement said on Sunday.
The decision was made as part of the Australian government's announcement of its 2011-12 national budget which was released in Canberra last week. The Australian High Commissioner in Dhaka Justin Lee said the increase in aid funding emphasised Australia's long-term commitment to cooperate with Bangladesh to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development.
