$233.7 million contract with Huawei Technologies: Supreme Court asks government to ensure transparency through open bidding

17 May, 2011

Supreme Court on Monday directed the government to ensure transparency in $233.7 million contract with Huawei Technologies through open bidding rather than focusing single company in China. The directives were issued by a two-member bench of the apex court comprising Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and Justice Ghulam Rabbani in a petition filed by Shahid Orakzai.
Directing Secretary Interior to submit a detailed report on June 1, the court adjourned further hearing. Meanwhile, another division bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to file a detailed report on irregularities in land purchase by Federal Government Employees Housing Foundation (FGEHF) in Zone four within two weeks.
