Respondents restrained from operating CPNE bank accounts

The Sindh High Court has restrained respondents from operating bank accounts of Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) till May 26, 2011. Advocate Kaleemul Hasan Siddiqui contended that Petitioner 1 (CPNE) was a registered Society and held its election in accordance with Article and Memorandum of Association of the Society and notified result to Respondent 1 on December 2, 2010.
It was contended that Respondents Nos. 3 to 5 (Amir Mehmood, Syed Hamid Hussain Abid and Ghulam Nabi Chandio) managed fake election, which was apparent from election schedule, available at page-71, that on same date nominations were received, withdrawal was notified, final list was displayed, election was held and result was announced, which was in clear violation of Article and Memorandum of Association of Society, therefore, could not be sustained.
The petitioner further contended that such elections were notified subsequent to election notified by petitioner, at paege-69, on December 6, 2010 and it was also notified in various newspapers. SHC division bench in its order wrote: "Let notice be issued to Respondents and Advocate General of Sindh so also DAG. The respondents may not operate bank account till next date." Hearing was adjourned to May 26, 2011.
