Partly Facetious: Politics is about trust and...

19 May, 2011

"Rehman Malik hath spoken untruths again!"
"Not untruths, white lies...and why are you surprised?"
"Well, he hath spoken untruths about serious matters. He said that the US has apologised for the post-bin Laden killing drone strikes, a claim that has been denied by the US embassy; he has claimed that the al Qaeda were responsible for killing the Saudi diplomat in Karachi which he did not support by the findings of any investigation; and said that Pakistan will not release bin Laden's wives to the US and I don't think that's his decision to take."
"And what amongst his past claims and need I add past actions have been within the Interior Minister's jurisdiction?"
"OK, but he is very close to the President, not like Zulfikar Mirza who has been a life-long friend of the President..." "I bet you, if you inform the Prime Minister and the Prime Minister asks Malik he will deny having ever said all of the above."
"Granted, he has done that frequently but then for the Prime Minister not to believe the evidence of his eyes and ears, he can see Malik saying what he denies..."
"Hey, politics is about trust and..."
"And wearing the right colour hat...didn't Malik tell you in confidence that when he wears a red hat he can say whatever he wants irrespective of the veracity of the statement?"
"Hey, we are not discussing Malik's colour un-co-ordination or his penchant for making a good story, good from the government's perspective..."
"Does Malik know that the US House of Representatives is debating a new definition of US military mission's around the world as proposed by the Obama administration: instead of focusing on waging a war against those who "committed or aided" the September 11 attacks the new Act would include forces "associated" with named antagonists like al Qaeda, and Taliban."
"What about Hamas and Hezbollah?"
"Those too."
"What about current charges against ISI's complicity."
"Those too."
"You think there should be a parliamentary debate on that!"
"Considering our adherence to the resolutions passed by parliament maybe we should give greater priority to saving trees."
"Ah save paper you mean!"
"Right."
