Indian court summons Swiss Timing in Games scam

24 May, 2011

An Indian court on Monday ordered police to summon sports timing company Swiss Timing to face trial in an alleged fraud involving a deal awarded to the firm by Delhi Commonwealth Games organisers. "Summons be issued to its CEO by diplomatic channels, through the ministry of external affairs and also by email, fax and international registry," judge Talwant Singh told the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CBI is probing a slew of corruption scandals involving Games officials and firms linked to the October sporting extravaganza, which was meant to showcase India's status as an emerging global power. Singh set July 14 as the deadline for the Swiss firm, which has been timekeeper at a host of Olympics Games, to respond to the Indian summons.
