26 May, 2011

Pakistan Navy on Wednesday appointed Commodore Khalid Parvez as new PNS Mehran Base Commander with immediate effect following the removal of his predecessor Raja Tahir. Naval Headquarters has issued a notification to this effect. Navy officials did not disclose the last assignment of Khalid Parvez. However, reliable sources said Commodore Khalid was on a special assignment in the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Sources maintained that six Americans and 11 Chinese nationals were taken hostage by terrorists on the base. The sources further claimed that at least 8 Taliban terrorists left the base after they entered into a deal with a top government official, who was leading the operation from the front.
The terrorists were given safe passage after they agreed not to cause any harm to the foreigners in their custody. Later, a case was registered with Shahrah-e-Faisal police station against 12 terrorists - four of them were already dead. It has been reported that four navy personnel have been shifted to Adiala Jail where they are being investigated.
